World AIDS Day events at USM were organized and sponsored by RISE, and cosponsored by ten community and campus organizations, including the AIDS Services Coalition, The Dandelion Project, the Mississippi State Department of Health, the Office of Multicultural Programs and Services, South Mississippi AIDS Task Force, Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative, Southern Miss Health Services, the Spectrum Center, and the Student Association of Social Workers.
With nearly 100 at a luncheon to hear a panel of expert speakers on HIV/AIDS in Mississippi, over 80 at an afternoon film showing and discussion of How to Survive a Plague, dozens getting HIV tests, and hundreds viewing a piece of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and getting health information, the event was a huge success!
